New Song and Writing Lyrics

The latest: Added a new song, "Dead Skin" to MySpace and Facebook the day before yesterday. This is the song that will feature Abby Eddy on the cello. The cello in the recording is electronically produced currently. Recording fell through this past weekend, but we have another weekend coming up soon in May that should work.

Working on lyrics for a another song that has all the instruments laid down. There's another good cello part for this one, although it's much more upbeat. Haven't shared it with Abby yet, but looking forward to it.

Lyrics are sometimes the hardest part of songwriting. There are many different methods people use and sometimes one works, but not the other for different people. It seems to work differently for each song. Cross your fingers.

Why yes, I WOULD really like one of these: Tenori-On. It's too bad they're $1166 dollars (That's 887 euros). Maybe I should start a "Ralpho needs a Tenori-On" Fund? Yeah, probably wouldn't go over so well. You can see a demo of how it works here: YouTube

Since I'm a regular artist who doesn't have money to spend on stuff like that, I guess I'll play with this toy instead. Not quite the same experience right? But it's fun. :D

This weekend

Besides the upcoming Music for Big Kids show this weekend, I'm also very much looking forward to a visit and rehearsal with Silly Joel, a silly-yet-rockin' cover band side project I have going, which includes the excellent cello playing of Abby Eddy, who will be joining me this weekend to record a cello part for a new Ralpho song I've been working on called "Dead Skin". I had previously written and recorded an electronic part for the cello, and it's going to be lovely to replace it with the real deal!

For those who don't know...

I've been playing drums for a local band named Music for Big Kids that is made of Patrick Russell on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jeff Nevins on bass and backing vocals and Michael Sullivan on lead guitar, and of course, myself on drums and backing vocals. We will be playing in downtown Springfield, Illinois on April 11th at Bar None, located on the corner of 5th and Monroe. We're opening for The Damwell Betters and Wooden Kites. The cover is $5. Show starts at 10pm. Hope to see you there!
